Funny how inspiration finds you in the simplest moments.
I wasn’t even planning to brew an IPA next. But then I got on the phone with my godfather one night. Him and his wife were trying some of my beers i mailed, cracking open a few Choobrew bottles at home. We were just talking, catching up, and he goes:
“Man… I like this beer, and I’m not even a beer guy.”
That meant a lot. My godfather doesn’t really drink beer, but he was vibing with the Czech Pilsner I made. And then his wife chimed in from the background:
“You know what I like? A juicy hazy IPA.”
And just like that, I knew what I was brewing next.
It meant a lot to me, especially because my godfather isn’t just family — he’s been incredibly special to me my whole life. He’s someone I love, respect, and am deeply grateful to have in my life. To see him enjoy something I created, to share that moment together, it was bigger than just beer. It was a reminder of how lucky I am to have his support, guidance, and presence in my life.
Special shout-out to my godfather — you’ve always had a special place in my heart. I love you and I’m grateful every day to have you in my life. Cheers to many more moments like this. ❤️🍻
🌱 Why This Brew Mattered
I’ve always loved a good juicy IPA, but this batch wasn’t about what I liked — it was about connecting flavors with people, especially with those i love and are very special to me. My godfather, my friends, my community.
I wanted to make something soft, approachable, tropical, and fun. A beer that even non-hopheads could enjoy. Something you sip and say, “dang, that’s juicy.”
So I got to work. Researched. Mapped it out. And brewed what I’m now calling the Juicy Hazy IPA: Citrus-Tropical Bomb / The Hazy Jeanie!! lol
🔥 The Build (How I Crafted This Juice)
Here’s an overview of what went into it — no deep science dive, just the highlights that made it shine:
🍺 The Grain Base:
11 lbs Pale Ale Malt
2.5 lbs Flaked Oats (for that pillowy feel)
2 lbs Wheat Malt
0.75 lb Carafoam (boost body & sweetness)
0.3 lb Acidulated Malt (for mash pH balance)
Why?I wanted a silky, smooth body that carried all the hops without tasting bitter or thin.
🍍 The Hops (Big Fruit Energy):
Whirlpool @ 180°F (20 min):
1.25 oz Citra
1.25 oz Mosaic
1.25 oz El Dorado
Dry Hop #1 (Day 3):
1.25 oz Citra
1.25 oz Mosaic
1.25 oz El Dorado
Dry Hop #2 (Post-fermentation):
1.25 oz Galaxy
1.25 oz Citra
Result? A tropical-citrus aroma that hits you before the glass even gets to your lips.
